Bloomsburg Children’s Museum Receives Grant From PPL Foundation for “Equitable Access to STEM Resources for Rural Communities”

The Bloomsburg Children’s Museum is pleased to announce it has received a $17,190 grant from the PPL Foundation. These funds will support the Museum’s “Equitable Access to STEM Resources for Rural Communities” program.
The project puts STEM resources into the hands of underserved students in isolated rural communities. It builds on a successful pilot program the Museum ran in collaboration with PPL and the Smithsonian Science Education Center. The piloted program’s goal was to connect resources that follow the Pennsylvania new STEELS Academic Standards with at-risk students and their teachers. These funds will support expanding the program and includes producing online professional development courses for teachers. These additional resources will allow the Museum to expand this program throughout its service region.

“Receiving this grant from the PPL Foundation is a tremendous boost for our mission to bring high-quality STEM education to underserved rural communities,” said Dr. Ginny Weibel, Director of the Bloomsburg Children’s Museum. “This project is crucial because it not only provides vital resources to students who might otherwise be overlooked, but it also empowers teachers with the tools they need to inspire the next generation of innovators. We are thrilled to expand our program and continue making a significant impact in these communities.”

“PPL supports communities where all are respected, valued and free to reach their full potential in life,” said Lissette Santana, PPL Foundation president. “The PPL Foundation is proud to recognize programs supporting underserved communities and advancing equity and inclusion in the communities we serve.”

The PPL Foundation announced the recipients of its Powering Equity Grants, awarding $203,000 in grants to support 30 organizations working to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in the communities they serve.
